The Finnish Government has proposed a law abolishing job alternation leave to Parliament

The goal is to abolish the job alternation leave system as of 1 August 2024. According to the Government’s proposal, the job alternation leave system would be abolished in such a way that new periods of alternation leave could be started until 31 July 2024.

Job alternation leave started before the end of July could continue for the full 180 calendar days. This means that the last periods of job alternation leave could run until the end of January 2025.

In order for the job alternation leave to be considered to have started by 31 July 2024, the job alternation leave agreement must be submitted to the TE Office no later than 31 July 2024.

The start date of the employment contract of the substitute must also be no later than 31 July 2024.
