The employment rate of KOKO’s members increased rapidly in 2021 and returned close to pre-pandemic levels.
Temporary change to the waiting period rule approved
The amendment allows the payment of unemployment benefit to unemployed or laid-off persons during the five-day waiting period. This amendment will apply in cases where the first day of the waiting period falls on the period between 1 January and 28 February 2022.
Current issues concerning tax cards
We will receive the tax information stated on the salary tax cards that become valid in February directly from the Tax Administration. We recommend getting a revised tax card for benefits for paying the taxes on your earnings-related unemployment allowance.
The standard entitlement of unemployment security goes back to 300 euros at the beginning of December
The standard entitlement of the unemployment security was increased to 500 euros by a temporary legislative amendment in June 2020. From December onwards, the standard entitlement will be 300 euros again. Terms of the mobility assistance will also return to normal.
The basic unemployment allowance will increase with an index increment of 2.1 percent next year
Kela has confirmed the value of the National Pensions Index for 2022; the value also affects the basic unemployment allowance as well as the earnings-related unemployment allowance.
Increase in the standard entitlement of unemployment security will continue until the end of November
The Parliament has approved a legislative amendment that will continue the standard entitlement of unemployment security until the end of November 2021. The easing of the terms of the mobility assistance will also continue.

The UK has entered into a partnership agreement with the EU, which will remain in force for the next 15 years. With this partnership agreement, work carried out in the UK may be acknowledged when claiming for earnings-related unemployment allowance benefit in Finland.

Maximum payment period active from 1 January 2021 onwards
Under temporary legislation, the maximum payment period for earnings-related unemployment allowance of 300-500 days was not active until 31 December 2020 if you were unemployed or laid off. From 1 January 2021 onwards, the period is active again.
New tax cards and taxation of earnings-related daily allowance
Please note that, if a salary tax card is used in the taxation of your earnings-related daily allowance, the tax withheld will be at least 25%. We recommend submitting a revised tax card that applies to the benefit to the fund.
