Employment rate of KOKO members increased in 2021

The employment rate of KOKO’s members increased rapidly in 2021 and returned close to pre-pandemic levels. The unemployment fund received just over 136,000 earnings-related unemployment allowance applications during the year. This means 38,000 fewer applications than in 2020. The total number of first-time applications was 10,002 (34,684 in 2020).

In 2021, the unemployment rate among KOKO’s members was 4.2% on average. Unemployment was at its highest in January (6.1%) and at its lowest in December (3.2%).

In 2020, laid-off persons accounted for an exceptionally high share of the unemployed due to the COVID-19 situation. Over the last year, the percentage of fully laid-off persons of the people who received unemployment benefit from KOKO went down from 24.1% to 8.2%.

The number of job alternation compensation applications submitted to KOKO has remained low since the tightening of the job alternation leave criteria. In 2021, the unemployment fund received 164 job alternation compensation applications, which is slightly more than in 2020, when the number of applications was 117. For mobility assistance, the total number of applications was 211.
