Are you wondering when will you receive your first daily allowance?

It’s good to note that the payment of the daily allowance does not necessarily start as soon as you become unemployed or even once your application has been processed. For example, any holiday compensation you are paid will influence when you can start receiving daily allowance.

Note the processing times of applications

When you apply for daily allowance for the first time, we will investigate your situation and calculate the amount of your earnings-related unemployment allowance. Because of this, processing your first application for daily allowance usually takes slightly longer than later follow-up applications.

Your first application will always be processed by our unemployment security expert. The processing time of your application depends on the length of the queue and whether your application has all the information required.

Your follow-up applications may be forwarded to automatic payment, in which case it will only take two banking days from submitting the application to receiving the allowance in your bank account.

Daily allowance applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis – up-to-date processing times can be found here .

We pay daily allowances on each banking day. When a payment leaves the fund, it will be deposited in your account within 1-2 business days. You should always be prepared for a processing time of a few weeks, even if your previous applications were processed sooner.

Holiday compensation and severance packages postpone the start of daily allowance

Any holiday compensation and other financial benefits you receive at the end of your employment (such as severance packages and one-time severance pay) affect the start of the payment of your daily allowance. The compensation is periodised, which means that we will calculate how many days’ pay the compensation or severance pay you receive corresponds to. You cannot receive earnings-related unemployment allowance during the periodisation. Days from Monday to Friday count towards the periodisation, which means that a holiday compensation equal to one month’s pay postpones the start of your daily allowance payments by about one month.

Daily allowance may be paid after a waiting period

After the periodisation, there is still a waiting period before the payment of the allowance begins. The waiting period is equal to 7 full workdays. Up to 5 days of a calendar week may count towards the waiting period. The waiting period does not overlap with the periodisation. Payment of the daily allowance begins after the waiting period.

Example

Your employment ends on 31 July 2024 and you are paid holiday compensation, which is periodised and postpones your allowance from 1 August to 14 August 2024. After this, your waiting period begins on 15 August and lasts until 23 August. Payment of the daily allowance can begin at the earliest on Monday, 26 August.

In other words, payment of the unemployment allowance can begin at the earliest after the periodisation and the waiting period of 7 days. To ensure that your application is processed quickly, it is important that you submit the application in time and make sure that all the required attachments are included.
