Annual holidays, holiday bonuses and other current information for daily allowance applicants

With summer almost here, we often get questions about how to report annual holidays and holiday bonuses in daily allowance applications. In this article, we have compiled the latest instructions for earnings-related unemployment allowance applicants.

Keep your job seeker’s status valid even in summer

If you are unemployed or laid off, your job seeker’s status must still be valid in the summer in accordance with the instructions of the employment authorities. Even if your full-time layoff is interrupted by your annual holiday during the summer, you can still keep your job seeker’s status valid during your holiday.

Apply for daily allowance within three months

Remember to apply for the daily allowance within three months of becoming unemployed or laid off. For example, if you become unemployed on 1 July, your first application must be at the unemployment fund no later than 1 October. Further applications must also be sent to the unemployment fund within three months of the start of each application period.

Don’t forget to report annual holidays and earned income in the application form

You can apply for daily allowance in your normal application cycle, even if the application period includes an annual holiday or holiday-related payments.

  • Enter “annual leave” in the application form for the days you have been on annual leave.
  • If you have received holiday pay or holiday bonus during the application period, enter it in the application even if you have not been on holiday during that period.

The unemployment fund receives income data from the Incomes Register, but you can speed up the processing of your application if you submit your payslip stating the holiday pay and holiday bonus you have been paid. You can submit the payslip in the eAsionti service. We can also use the payslip to check the hours you have worked as a part-time employee.

How annual holiday pay and holiday bonuses affect daily allowances

If you are paid holiday pay based on a full-time job, you are not entitled to a daily allowance for the holiday days. If your holiday pay is based on part-time wages, you will be paid an adjusted daily allowance, which means that your pay will decrease your daily allowance.

The holiday bonus is taken into account in the calculation of the daily allowance if it is a holiday bonus based on the salary of part-time work, or if it is not possible to separate which part of the salary is from full-time work and which from part-time work. Holiday bonus based on full-time work does not affect the daily allowance.

Annual holiday and waiting period

Daily allowance will be paid after the waiting period. The waiting period corresponds to seven full working days and does not include days on which you are not entitled to earnings-related unemployment allowance, such as annual leave days.
