Tax cards become valid in January instead of February – Order a revised tax card for your allowance

The Tax Administration has changed the date when tax cards become valid, and as of 2025, tax cards are already valid on 1 January instead of 1 February.

Order a revised tax card for your allowance in MyTax to make sure that your tax rate is right

The regular tax card which you receive automatically and which becomes valid at the beginning of January is intended for salary. If a regular tax card is used to withhold taxes on your earnings-related unemployment allowance, the tax rate will be raised to at least 25%.

If you receive daily allowance, we recommend that you order a revised tax card for benefits because then the tax rate on your tax card will be applied normally. When your tax rate is calculated based on the benefits you are paid, the withholding tax may be significantly lower.

The 2025 tax cards appeared in MyTax by 13 December 2024, so you can already go to MyTax and order a new tax card that has been calculated for your allowance.

You can state in MyTax that you want your tax card to be delivered directly to your unemployment fund, KOKO. KOKO automatically receives the income tax information of daily allowance recipients from the Tax Administration at the beginning of the year, but the revised tax card you have ordered will not be automatically sent to KOKO.
