Annual holiday and holiday bonus – good to know for recipients of daily allowance

With summer almost here, we often get questions about how to report annual holidays and holiday bonuses when applying for earnings-related daily allowance. In this article, we have compiled instructions based on the latest information.

Report your annual holiday dates on the daily allowance application

You can apply for daily allowance in your normal application cycle, even if the application period includes days of annual holiday or payments related to annual holiday. On the application form, mark “annual holiday” next to the days when you were on annual holiday.

The unemployment fund receives income data from the Incomes Register, but you can speed up the processing of your application if you send us your payslip listing the amount of holiday pay and holiday bonus you were paid. You can submit the payslip in eAsiointi. We can also use the payslip to check the hours you have worked as a part-time employee.

If you are paid holiday pay based on the salary of a full-time job, you are not entitled to a daily allowance for the days of annual holiday for which you received the holiday pay. If your holiday pay is based on part-time wages, you will be paid an adjusted daily allowance, which means that your pay will decrease your daily allowance.

Holiday bonus based on full-time work does not affect your daily allowance. If, on the other hand, your holiday bonus is based on part-time wages, you will receive an adjusted daily allowance.

Keep your job seeker’s status valid even during the summer

Keep your status as a job seeker active and follow the employment authority’s instructions so that you remain entitled to earnings-related unemployment allowance. One of the requirements for receiving unemployment benefits is that you are actively looking for work.

Apply for daily allowance within three months

Remember to apply for the daily allowance within three months of becoming unemployed or laid off. For example, if you become unemployed on 1 July, your first application must be at the unemployment fund no later than 1 October. Further applications must also be sent to the unemployment fund within three months of the start of each application period.
